Legion Auxiliary Membership
|
Membership in the Auxiliary is limited to
women who have direct personal connection with service in World Wars I and
II, and the Korean or Vietnam War, or conflicts in Grenada, Lebanon, Panama or the Persian Gulf War. This service is through a
member of one's own immediate family who served in the Armed Forces during
those wars or conflicts, or through one's own service with the Armed
Forces.

the Auxiliary fall into one of the following categories:
(1) The mothers, wives, daughters, sisters, granddaughters,
great-granddaughters and grandmothers of members of The American Legion.
(2) The mothers, wives, daughters, sisters, granddaughters,
great-granddaughters and grandmothers of those who served in the Armed
Forces of the United States during any of the eligibility periods*
listed and who died in the line of duty during such service, or who, having
received an Honorable Discharge, died after such service.
(3) The mothers, wives, daughters, sisters, granddaughters,
great-granddaughters and grandmothers of those who were citizens of the
United States and who served during any of the eligibility periods*
in the Armed Forces of any of the governments who were allies of the United
States and who died in the line of duty during such service, or who, having
received an Honorable Discharge, died after such service.

Sons
of The American Legion
|
The Sons of The American Legion was created in
1932 as an organization within The American Legion. The S.A.L. is made up
of boys and men of all ages whose parents or grandparents served in the United States military and became eligible for membership in The
American Legion.
To be eligible, you must be a male descendant
(includes stepsons and adopted sons) of a member of The American
Legion.
You would also be eligible to join the
Sons of The American Legion if you are the male descendant (stepsons and
adopted sons included) of a veteran who died in service during World War I,
World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, or
the Persian Gulf War (see specific time periods for service during these
conflicts above under American Legion Membership. Veteran's Service Record
Information is needed for eligibility).
You would also be eligible to join the
Sons of The American Legion if you are the male descendant (stepsons and
adopted sons included) of a veteran who died subsequent to his or her
honorable discharge from service in World War I, World War II, the Korean
War, the Vietnam War, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, or the Persian Gulf War
(see specific time periods for service during these conflicts above under
American Legion Membership. Veteran's Service Record Information is needed
for eligibility).
Does a living parent or grandparent have to be
a Legionnaire for his sons/grandsons to be eligible for the S.A.L.?
Yes. If the veteran is still living, they must be a member of The Legion
when the son first signs up. However, once a person is officially a member
of the Sons, it doesn't matter if the member drops out of The Legion
sometime in the future. So...if somebody wants to join the Sons but his
parent or grandparent is not a Legionnaire...then somebody needs to make
that veteran a Legionnaire so the younger man can join the Sons.
