This scholarship award has been established and dedicated to the memory of a Legion and Auxiliary member who is no longer among us. Funds will be awarded to one boy and one girl in the amount of $500.00 dollars each. Applicants will be required to submit a 300 - 350 word essay on “What it means to be American”.
Applicants will need to submit their essay by April 1, 2010.
Applicants will need to supply the following information:
Name and name of parents.
Household income.
Home life situation, single parent household, foster care, handicaps, etc.
Child with active military parents.
Letters of recommendation, clergy, guidance counselors, teacher, community leader, etc.
All information will be held in confidence.

Funds can be used toward further education, college, technical training, barber school, etc.
Funds will be paid directly to the institution named by the winner.
A point system will determine the winner:
Essay content: possible 30 points.
Financial situation: possible 10 points.
Letters of recommendation: possible 5 points.
Home life situation: possible 5 points
Child with active Military parent(s) 5 points.
